Is Mesa Verde open in the winter?

Yes, the park is open year-round, but winter access is limited.

Winter brings snow and cold temperatures. Ranger-led cliff dwelling tours stop operating. Wetherill Mesa closes. You can still drive the 6-mile Mesa Top Loop Road and visit the main visitor center. Entry drops to $20 per vehicle from October 23 to April 30.

What weather should I expect?

Summer temperatures are hot, while winter brings freezing conditions and snow.

Temperatures fluctuate dramatically between morning and evening at elevations up to 8,500 feet. Bring layers of clothing. Summer visitors need plenty of drinking water, sun protection, and a wide-brimmed hat to handle the dry, high-altitude climate.
